Science World Transforms Into Giant FIFA World Cup Ball for Vancouver 2026
One of Vancouver’s most iconic landmarks is getting a massive makeover for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Science World is being transformed into a giant soccer ball, and it’s going to be hard to miss. The installation is already underway and will be completed just in time for the global event. Here’s what to expect.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, Vancouver is starting to gear up in a big way—and one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city is at the center of it. Science World has announced that it will be transformed into a massive version of the official match ball for the tournament. The project, known as “The Beautiful Dome,” will turn the building into a full 360-degree recreation of the adidas Trionda ball.
The installation will cover the entire 40-metre-wide dome, creating a striking visual that will be visible across the city. Work on the transformation has already begun, with completion expected in early June—just ahead of the World Cup matches kicking off in Vancouver. The project is being led by The Look Company, which specializes in large-scale event branding and design.
This transformation marks another major moment for Science World, which originally opened during Expo 86 and has remained a symbol of the city ever since. The goal of the installation is not just visual impact, but to create a shared experience for both locals and visitors arriving for the tournament. With fans traveling from around the world, the dome is expected to become one of the most photographed spots in Vancouver during the event.
In addition to the exterior transformation, Science World will also host a special FIFA-themed exhibition inside the venue. The exhibit, created in partnership with the FIFA Museum in Zurich, will open on May 15, 2026, and run through September 7. It will give visitors an interactive look at soccer history and global culture, adding even more to the World Cup experience in the city.
Vancouver is set to host seven matches at BC Place Stadium during the tournament, including group stage games and a round-of-16 match. As excitement continues to build across Metro Vancouver, more events and activations are being announced. Capilano Suspension Bridge will also be hosting a themed celebration called Canyon Kick-Off, featuring country flags and large-scale soccer displays.
Even public transit is getting involved, with TransLink planning World Cup-themed updates, including voice announcements featuring Canadian soccer legend Christine Sinclair. Altogether, these activations show how the entire region is preparing to welcome the world.
